Landscape Painting

"USS Boise"

In the summer of 2007, my uncle, Vernon Benoit, passed away. He was a member of the Navy during WWII and the USS Boise was the ship that he was stationed on. He had an old postcard of the ship and I asked him if I could use it to paint this. The painting stayed in his house until he passed away. When I was working on the painting, I would call him and ask him to tell me about the different areas. He could remember every part of the ship like it was yesterday. Unfortunately, I think that he remembered a lot of other things to from that time - including losing most of his good buddies to a torpedo attack. I am so amazed at what 20 year old kids from that time had to live through. It was truly an honor to be able to paint this. - KH
